MODEL KIT(s) AND TECHNIQUES USED:
– Hobbyboss ZSD-89 kit modified into a semi-fictional ZBD-89 using a Trumpeter BMP-1 turret (modified to a Chinese WZ501 BMP configuration).
– Such a vehicle existed on the Type-85 chassis, but I wanted to model a sort of what-if on the larger Type-89 chassis, so I cut up the hull roof, moved and plugged various hatches, and redid the weld lines on the turret and hull to match.
– To stick with the what-if theme, I painted the model in P.L.A.N. Marine markings to represent a cold-war-gone-hot scenario with a Chinese occupation of the many disputed South China Sea airbase-islands, circa 2000.
