HMS Hermes was the world’s first ship to be designed as an aircraft carrier, and was commissioned in 1924. She was lost April 9,1942 off the east coast of Sri Lanka when she came under attack by Japanese dive bombers. Most of the survivors were rescued by a nearby hospital ship, although 307 men from Hermes were lost in the sinking.
This build shows her as she would have appeared in 1939 at the outset of WW2.
