MODEL KIT(s) AND TECHNIQUES USED:
Scratch-built. The only injection kit part used was the cowling (from the Wingsy Ki-51 Sonia) but modified. While I used “portions” of the old Gull Models vacuform kit, that kit was so badly damaged and inaccurate, that I basically re-vacuformed most of the fuselage using my own wood forms. The cockpit was entirely scratch-built based on personal photos of an original surviving Ki-55 in Thailand. The 1000’s of rivets are all decals from Micromark. The canopy was hand-vacuformed using my own wood molds. All markings were hand-applied using masks I designed and cut on a vinyl cutting printer.
