The B-17 could take punishing damage and still bring its crew home. Wheels up belly landings were common and, using reference photos, I wanted to reproduce one such landing using a old Revell kit from 1989. Flak damage in the tail was replicated by removing sections of the tail, inserting scratch-built internal structure and covering it with thin sheet plastic that was easily cut into with a sharp knife. The smashed stone fence is from pebbles in my driveway. The planes’ markings do not depict any particular Bomb Group and were cobbled together from a selection of decal sets.
